Slentrol
Slentrol is the first safe and effective weight-loss medication made specifically for the obese dog. Many dog owners do not realize it, but almost half the dogs veterinarians see are overweight or obese. A dog is considered overweight if they are 5% to 19% above their ideal weight. A dog is defined as obese if they have gone over 20% of their ideal weight.
Your veterinarian can tell if your dog is at a healthy weight. A Body Condition Score (BCS) may be used to classify your dog based on their physical characteristics. There are two BCS systems which evaluate the dog on a scale of 1 -5 or 1 - 9.
If your dog is too heavy, you may know that proper diet and exercise are an important first step in their weight loss plan. Sometimes, though, a diet and exercise program can be difficult to stick with and may not be enough.
