Senior Wellness

Our senior care program was designed for your older pet's needs.  It has been noted that beginning at about age seven, your pet is starting to enter in his senior years.

Often your pet can start to develop diseases such as diabetes, heart disease endocrine disease and cancer.  These diseases can go undetected in their early stages; therefore, preventive health care is very important.

Early detection can help in disease prevention and minimize suffering by:

  • Establishing baseline blood work
  •  Identifying existing health problems
  • Monitoring progress of diseases during treatment

So what makes your pet a senior?

Deciding if your pet takes into about their breed, age, size and life expectancy.  The chart below shows where your pet fits in this group:

Species Feline Small Dog Medium Dog Large Dog
Senior Age 9-13 Years 9-13 Years 7-12 Years 6-9 Years
Geriatric 14+ Years 14+ Years 12+ Years 10+ Years

If your pet fits this, then they are a candidate for this important service.

For this service, your pet will need to have a scheduled appointment with on of our veterinarians.  At the time of the exam your pet will have a complete physical.  This includes but is not limited to an otic exam, ophthalmic exam, in-depth dental exam, assessment of weight, assessment of skin condition, and assessment of heart and lung sounds.  Also included in this exam is a complete blood and urine panel to our laboratory.

Sine we send our laboratory samples out to Idexx Laboratories, it usually takes an additional day to get all your pet's results back in our office.  Once the veterinarian has all the information available, they will notify you of all the results and a course of action for your pet if one is needed.

Remember, the end result is if we are able to find a problem early, or prevent a problem through early diagnosis, your pet will live a longer and happier life.
